Beyond BDD Social Comparison

Moving Beyond BDD Social Comparison:

A 3-Month Coaching Journey

Spend less time comparing your appearance and more time being present in your life.

Do you find yourself automatically comparing your appearance with other people?

You may scan other people’s faces, bodies, hair, skin, or other features. You may notice who you think looks β€œbetter” or β€œworse” than you. Sometimes comparison happens so quickly that you barely realize you are doing it.

Even when you know that comparing is making your BDD worse, it can be difficult to stop.

Moving Beyond BDD Social Comparison is a three-month guided coaching experience designed to help people with Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) understand their own comparison patterns, practice changing them, and reduce the amount of time and attention BDD comparison takes from everyday life.

You do not have to change everything about your BDD at once.

For three months, we will focus on one thing: helping you change your relationship with appearance comparison.

🧭 What Would You Like to Change?

Reducing social comparison about your appearance may mean something different for everyone.

Perhaps you would like to:

  • Spend less time scanning and comparing yourself with other people
  • Be more present during conversations
  • Feel less consumed by how you look compared with someone else
  • Participate more fully in social situations or activities
  • Reduce other BDD behaviors that are connected with comparison
  • Learn how to respond differently when the urge to compare appears

At the beginning of the journey, you will identify what you would like to change and the areas of your life where comparison is getting in your way.

🌱 Month 1: Understand Your Comparison Pattern

We will begin by identifying how comparison works for you.

You will explore when you compare, what triggers it, what happens in your thoughts and emotions, and what you tend to do afterward.

You will choose manageable changes to begin practicing rather than trying to eliminate every BDD behavior at once.

πŸ› οΈ Month 2: Practice Changing the Pattern

Knowing that comparison is unhelpful does not necessarily make it easy to stop.

During the second month, you will practice responding differently to comparison thoughts and urges.

Depending on your needs, we may draw from strategies such as CBT, exposure and ritual reduction, motivational strategies, ACT, self-compassion, and challenging the BDD voice.

The goal is not simply to learn strategies. You will practice applying them to your own comparison patterns and receive guidance when you get stuck.

🌻 Month 3: Be More Present in Your Life

Social comparison can take your attention away from conversations, relationships, work, school, activities, and other things that matter to you.

During the final month, you will continue practicing your skills in everyday situations and focus on the changes that matter most to you.

You will also develop your own plan for continuing your progress after the three-month journey ends.

πŸ’¬ You Will Not Be Doing This Alone

The three-month experience will include:

Six live group coaching sessions with Dr. Eva
Meet twice each month for focused teaching, coaching, questions, feedback, and help applying what you are learning.

Practical exercises and resources
Use selected BDD resources and exercises to help you understand and change your comparison patterns.

A private community space
Connect with others who are working on the same BDD behavior, share experiences, ask questions, and encourage one another between sessions.

Personal goals and ongoing practice
Decide what meaningful progress looks like for you and practice manageable changes throughout the three months.

Guidance and accountability
Bring your successes, difficulties, and questions to the coaching sessions so that we can identify what is helping and what you may need to adjust.

πŸ’œ Who Is This For?

Moving Beyond BDD Social Comparison is designed for adults who:

  • Recognize that they have BDD or struggle with body dysmorphia
  • Frequently compare their appearance with other people
  • Want to reduce the amount of time and attention comparison takes from their lives
  • Are willing to practice new strategies between coaching sessions
  • Want practical guidance, encouragement, feedback, and accountability
  • Would benefit from connecting with other people who understand BDD

You do not need to be doing badly to participate. You may already understand BDD and know some coping strategies. Sometimes the challenge is putting what you know into practice consistently in your own life.

🌟 What Happens After Three Months?

The goal is not to complete a course and then be left on your own.

At the end of the three months, you will review the progress you have made and identify your next steps.

Depending on your needs, you may choose to continue receiving support through the Fear to Courage Community, work with Dr. Eva individually, continue practicing independently, or seek additional professional BDD treatment.

βš•οΈ Coaching Supports Recovery. It Does Not Replace Treatment

This program provides BDD education, coaching, peer support, and practical strategies. It is not psychotherapy, does not diagnose BDD, and does not replace professional mental health treatment.

If you are experiencing severe symptoms or need clinical treatment, please seek help from a qualified mental health professional.
