Participants are welcome to share what has helped them, ask questions, or simply listen. Cameras are optional. Members are encouraged to respect one another’s experiences and maintain confidentiality.

Meeting Times

The group meets online via Zoom on the third Thursday of each month for one hour, beginning at 8pm ET/7pm CT/6pm MT/5pm PT.

Working Agreements for the BDD Coping Skills Support Group

In order to maintain a supportive environment during group meetings, members are asked to abide by the following working agreements:

1. Confidentiality

Please respect the privacy of other group members. Do not share names or personal experiences outside the group. Members are expected to maintain confidentiality, although confidentiality cannot be guaranteed in an online peer support setting.

2. Share Meeting Time

Members who choose to speak are encouraged to be mindful of how much time they use so that others have an opportunity to participate. Listening is also a valuable form of participation.

3. Share From Your Own Experience

When discussing coping strategies, please use “I” statements and share what has worked for you. A strategy that helps one person may not work for everyone. Please avoid telling others what they should do or providing unsolicited advice.

4. Respect Different Recovery Experiences

Everyone’s experience with BDD is different. Please be respectful of others’ challenges, progress, and setbacks. Avoid appearance comparisons, reassurance about appearance, or comments that may reinforce BDD symptoms.

5. Peer Support, Not Therapy or Coaching

The group provides opportunities to share experiences and coping strategies. It does not provide individualized coaching, therapy, diagnosis, or medical advice. Information shared by the facilitator and participants is for educational and support purposes only and is not a substitute for professional mental health care.
