About Dr. Eva Fisher

Eva Fisher, PhD, is a peer communication specialist, college instructor, mental health coach, author, advocate, and motivational speaker.

Dr. Eva Fisher is a communication faculty member at Colorado State University Global and Front Range Community College. She received her PhD in Public Communication and Technology from Colorado State University, specializing in online health communication. She founded Fear to Courage in 2015 while completing her dissertation research.

Eva’s research is focused on how people communicate online to share their mental health struggles. Her dissertation studied the personal disclosures and social support exchanged on a body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) online support forum.

Eva is a member of the International OCD Foundation BDD Special Interest Group and has authored multiple articles about coping with and recovery from body dysmorphic disorder. She has also overcome BDD and written a book based on her dissertation research: The BDD Family: Coping with Body Dysmorphic Disorder in a Peer Support Group.

College Communication Instructor

Dr. Eva’s teaching experience includes more than 15 years as a college instructor, teaching both online and on-ground classes in Public Speaking, English, Professional Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Intercultural Communication, Mass Communication, Public Relations, Social Media, and Conflict Communication. Her passion is teaching educators, entrepreneurs, and college students effective communication and presentation skills so they achieve their career, business, and professional goals.

Mental Health Coach and Support Group Facilitator

Eva Fisher, PhD, offers small group coaching and one-to-one coaching for women and men suffering from BDD and body dysmorphia. She facilitates two support groups for adults with body dysmorphic disorder (BDD). The Recovery from BDD support group started in January 2021. The group meets bi-monthly on the second and fourth Thursday. More information about the group can be found on the BDD Online Support Group page.

Eva also offers a support group for therapists with BDD that meets the third Thursday of each month. Please contact her for more information about the support groups. Eva studied the personal disclosures and social support shared in an online BDD support forum for her dissertation research. Her book, The BDD Family, is based on her dissertation and contains messages from hundreds of forum members about their struggles with BDD.

Dr. Fisher is a certified Toastmasters International speaker and leader, and a highly regarded college instructor and educator in public speaking, social media marketing, interpersonal communication, and business communication. She delivers powerful, motivational presentations about overcoming fears and obstacles including body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), academic challenges, and career setbacks. She uses ethos (credibility), pathos (emotions) and logos (knowledge based on research) to inspire her audience so they can achieve success in their businesses, careers, and personal relationships.
