Eva E. Fisher Artist Statement

Inspiration

Playing with color is essential to my art. My oil paintings are inspired by the roses and wildflowers that spring forth in my garden every spring and summer.  Creating harmonious, exuberant floral images brings me a deep inner peace and joy. I have wanted to paint landscapes, flowers, and nature since studying the work of Monet, Constable, and Turner during college.

I come from an artistic family; both of my parents were artists. My mother graduated from New York University with a Fine Arts degree and my father earned a Graphic Arts degree from the University of Vienna in Austria.  My desire to learn oil painting came from my mother’s beautiful still life and portrait paintings that decorated the walls of my childhood home.

Intent

My goal is to have fun discovering the many color nuances that exist in nature, capturing the quality of light as it illuminates the world around me, and creating images that appear both spontaneous and timeless.

Technique

Oil painting is an additive process. Layers of color are built upon one another. By mixing bright colors together, objects spring to life on the canvas. I learned how to paint like the Impressionists by taking classes from Colorado artist Chuck Ceraso. Painting with oils on canvas using a palette knife provides rich impasto paint coverage, versatility, and an easy way to clean up using paper towels rather than turpentine. I look forward to painting many more roses and colorful flowers from my garden in the coming years.
